This quaint limestone church, located along County Highway C in the Honey Creek Township of southern Sauk
County, was built in 1880 as a mission of St. Aloysius Catholic Church
in Sauk City, Wisconsin. It had a membership of German and Irish
settlers. The interesting stencil patterns on the interiors walls have been carefully restored to their original design. It
has the original pews, the 1887 pump organ, and pot belly stove in place
along with statues and pulpit.
Long-time members tell of childhood days of counting the numerous stenciled stars above the pulpit during the service and of trudging to church through the fields when they were covered with snow. Needless to say, the pews nearest the stove were the most popular on snowy days.
The church is available for weddings and public tours upon request. Contact a staff member of the SPAHS to set up a tour.
